Ickle Explorers (2-3 years)

When your child is ready to, they can then move up to the 2-3 year old room.
As with all of our rooms, this will be a gradual process, allowing your child to move only at their own pace into the new environment.

Activities provided in this room include sand and water play, a cosy reading corner, arts and crafts, home corner, music, dressing-up and role-play, construction and puzzles. We work with the guidelines of Birth to Three Matters, focusing on learning through play.

For those children that are still being toilet-trained, our staff will work closely with you to enable continuity of their new routine. Children will be allocated their own 'potty' for the duration of their training so they know it is their own. This will be sterilized after every use and labeled with your child's name. We can work alongside you to incorporate 'sticker charts' or 'reward structures' to mirror their pattern at home and of course keep you informed of their progress daily. We would be grateful if spare clothes could be provided at this time as accidents do happen!

Children are encouraged to sit together to enjoy meals, and the staff also eat meals with the children to help promote healthy eating habits. Children are also allowed to choose their own food from the 'snack bar' at snack times as this helps develop their independence.

Parents/carers will receive a contact book designed for the Ickle Explorers Room. This will give a daily record of eating patterns and activities, and this also has an area for feedback from home.

We also operate a Keyworker system in our Ickle Explorers Room, whereby your child will be allocated a member of staff to be their main Keyworker. Your child's keyworker will be mainly responsible for planning your child's activities and ensuring that all developmental stage activities are included in their days with us, ensuring all children are nurtured and helped differently, dpending on their needs. They will also be responsible for monitoring and recording your child's important learning milestones.

Children will be able to enjoy outdoor play every day - and can take turns to help feed our fish and other nursery pets and look after our garden plant projects.

See you soon
